4E used to be Khan’s apartment number in New York’s East Village in the early ’90s. He would spread his electronic gear on the kitchen floor and record night and day except for some quick food or disco breaks in the hood.
Equipped with only a Roland TR 808, TB 303, SH 101 and the Emulator SP1200 sampling drum-machine, he recorded Blue Note in 1995 and released the album originally on Home Entertainment/Liquid Sky Music in 1996. 4E ‘s sound is a unique brand of futuristic acid electro that was unheard at that time, fusing New York Hip Hop and Electro beats with German Acid Techno. Blue Note was conceived as an homage to NYC legendary jazz label by the use of electronic machinery.
